Doak Walker
An All-American Football Legend.
I was commissioned by a Walker family friend and Emmy award winning media producer Doug Murray to create the logo and labels for a bourbon baring this SMU legend’s name. It had to use specific licensed images of the Doaker, tell his story, and of course, meet all the alcoholic legal pertinence.
Premium
Doug originally asked me for one label but he liked my second option so much that he used it as well for a limited run. This limited run straight Bourbon Whiskey is finished in a cherry brandy cask.
The label, printed by Belmark Inc., includes pressed red foil and embossing in the navy areas. I appreciate Jake and the team from Belmark for their patience and guidance through this process. Doug and I had no clue what we were doing. Doug, the owner of Murray Media, is a creative himself and he was an honor to collaborate with. He was completely open to whatever I did and always had great feedback with strong articulation and accuracy.
The label had to honor a legend, and Doug did not want to leave anything that is to be said about Doak Walker out.
Historic
The back label includes a brief homage that ties in the historic career of Doak with this classy spirit. Some important dates are listed and if you see this bottle in person see if you can find the names of surviving family members in the bottom filigree.
Legendary
The Doak Walker award is given to the top college running back every year.
Doak played for Southern Methodist University in the 50s, leading his team to championships, and then winning further titles in the NFL with the Detroit Lions.
