Admittedly, in the early 90s, I had been reading to much “Spawn” by Todd McFarland and was going for a darker scarier mood and forced this on everybody. But I involved residence life(Judy Geelhold), student government(Diana Diaz), the cheer squad(Ruth Rogers), the band, public relations(Steve Weed), athletics(Buddy Meyers), and the alumni association. I was in the middle of all of it. I did radio spots, posters, show props, and 16 issues of comic strips to promote this guy. I gained my first real experience in art direction, and built relationships with a lot of people.
Despite my disregard for brand and the advice of Starline Costumes who had did the Spurs Coyote, this non art university gave me a work-study position of resident artist and a Presidential Honor Award.
Though, they did not keep my original direction(it scared children), they kept my inspiration and developed him to a more colorful and approachable visage, which I love.
